Germany's Ultimatum for Inclusive Development and Peace

Berlin, Germany – The German government is urging the Syrian transitional government to adopt an inclusive approach in the country’s development. A spokesperson for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) stated that during the visit of State Secretary Niels Annen to Syria last week, the expectation of inclusivity was reiterated.

In the wake of recent violence, an independent investigation must also be ensured, the spokesperson added. The BMZ official also mentioned that Germany will pledge further aid at the Syria Support Conference in Brussels on Monday, but this will be done independently of the Syrian government, through international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Specifically, Germany plans to allocate around 300 million euros for the region, with 168 million euros from the Federal Foreign Office and 133 million euros from the BMZ, as part of the provisional budget. More than half of the allocated funds will benefit the people of Syria.
