Bayern’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) won’t let the higher deportation numbers announced by the federal government pass as a success of the Ampel government. The federal government “didn’t do a good job”, the increased deportation numbers are an achievement of the states, Herrmann told the news channel “Welt”.
“We have increased deportation numbers in Bavaria by 25 percent. That’s already quite pleasing so far. But it could have been even more if the federal government had fulfilled its duties. The federal government had announced a return program at the beginning of this great Ampel government, but not much has been seen of it so far” Herrmann said.
Regarding the deportation of criminal offenders, only “one large announced deportation flight to Afghanistan took place in the fall”. Despite promises from the Chancellor and the Federal Interior Minister, “not a single further one took place by the end of the year”, Herrmann criticized.
“We must do everything to make significant progress on the topic of deportations, ending the stay of people who have no right to be here, and especially speeding up the deportation of criminal individuals” the Bavarian Interior Minister said. To achieve this, more agreements with countries of origin are needed.
