Germany's Ruling Coalition on the Brink of Collapse?

According to a recent survey by Forsa, the voter’s goodwill has slightly decreased for both the Union and the SPD.

The weekly opinion poll by the research institute, commissioned by RTL and ntv, was published on Tuesday and showed that CDU/CSU (32%) and SPD (17%) each gained a point. The Left (3%) and the Greens (12%) lost a point each, while the values for FDP (3%), AfD (19%), and BSW (4%) remained unchanged.

If Germans could directly elect the Chancellor, under the current scenario, 26% would vote for Friedrich Merz (CDU) in the first week of the year, 22% for Robert Habeck (Greens), and only 16% for Olaf Scholz (SPD). Among their own supporters, Habeck still enjoys a significantly stronger backing with 84%, compared to Scholz (60%) and Merz (68%) among their party’s followers.

The survey interviewed 1,501 people from January 2 to 6.
