German Single-Store Retailers in January 2025 Report a 0.2% Real Sales Increase Compared to the Previous Month (0.1% Nominal).
According to the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the sales of single-store retailers in January 2025, adjusted for price changes, increased by 2.9% (nominal: 3.8%) compared to January of the previous year.
The sales in the food retail sector, in particular, showed a strong increase, with a real growth of 1.5% (nominal: 0.6%) compared to the previous month. Compared to January of the previous year, the sales in this sector rose by 1.5% (nominal: 3.0%), according to Destatis.
On the other hand, the non-food retail sector reported a decline in sales, with a real decrease of 0.2% (nominal: 0.1%) compared to the previous month. In comparison to January of the previous year, the sales in this sector increased by 3.7% (nominal: 4.3%).
The online retail sector also reported a decline in sales, with a real decrease of 4.2% (nominal: 4.3%) compared to the previous month. However, it still showed a real increase of 11.5% and a nominal increase of 11.9% compared to January of the previous year, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
