Germany's Production Booms in November!

Germany’s seasonally and calendar-adjusted industrial production in the manufacturing sector rose by 1.5% in November 2024 compared to the previous month. In the less volatile three-month comparison, production from September to November was 1.1% lower than in the previous three months, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Thursday.

In October, production fell by 0.4% compared to September, after the preliminary results were revised (preliminary value: -1.0%). In comparison to the same month in the previous year, November 2023, production in November 2024 was 2.8% lower, calendar-adjusted.

The positive development in November was spread across many economic sectors. The production increase in energy generation (seasonally and calendar-adjusted +5.6% compared to the previous month), construction, and the other vehicle manufacturing (aircraft, ships, trains, military vehicles; +11.4%) had a positive impact on the overall result.

Industrial production (manufacturing sector excluding energy and construction) rose by 1.0% in November compared to the previous month, seasonally and calendar-adjusted. The production of investment goods increased by 1.4%, that of consumer goods by 0.9%, and that of intermediate goods by 0.5%. In comparison to the same month in the previous year, November 2023, industrial production was 3.2% lower, calendar-adjusted.

Production in the energy-intensive industrial sectors increased by 1.5% in November, seasonally and calendar-adjusted. In the three-month comparison, production in the energy-intensive sectors from September to November 2024 was 4.1% lower than in the previous three months. Compared to the same month in the previous year, November, energy-intensive production was 0.4% lower, calendar-adjusted.
