Germany's New PM Declares Victory in Stopping Migrant Flood

German Chancellor’s Successor Praises Border Control Measures in Germany

German Minister-President Boris Rhein, a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has hailed the intensified border controls in Germany as a success, just three weeks after their implementation. In an interview with the Bild newspaper, Rhein emphasized that the new federal government’s migration policy is already sending a strong signal: “Germany is taking a consistent approach to irregular migration.”

Despite the relatively low numbers of rejected asylum seekers at the border, Rhein sees the measures as a clear indication of the government’s new course in migration policy. He attributes the decline in irregular entries and asylum applications to the enhanced border controls.

Looking ahead to the summer, when the United Nations and the European Union predict an increase in migration, Rhein is calling for a long-term securing of Germany’s borders. “Without secure EU external borders, there can be no open borders without control in the interior” he stressed. At the same time, he advocates for a fundamental shift in Germany’s migration policy. He expressed gratitude to Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, a member of the Christian Social Union (CSU), for his decisive approach to this crucial issue.
