In a recent interview with the German newspaper “Bild am Sonntag”, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on Germany to significantly increase its military expenditures and arms production. “Germany must spend more and produce more” Rutte emphasized, stating that this will be a major topic of debate in many European countries in the coming months. “I’m saying it clearly: we must prepare for war. That is the best way to avoid war” he added, emphasizing the need for Germany to continue its current path in Europe and in Ukraine.
Rutte also announced that the future NATO percentage will be significantly higher, exceeding two percent. “More than two-thirds of NATO partners are currently spending more than two percent on defense – incidentally, also thanks to Trump. But: we must invest more and the allies will decide in the coming months how to measure this exactly. I can assure you, however, that it will be a lot, a lot, a lot more than two percent” he said, leaving no doubt about the NATO’s future military spending plans.
