Germany Urged to Pursue Diplomatic Initiatives in Iran and Israel Crisis

Germany’s foreign policy spokesperson for the Social Democratic Party’s parliamentary faction, Adis Ahmetovic, has called for the country to take diplomatic initiatives in the face of the escalating crisis in Iran and Israel.

Ahmetovic expressed surprise at the Israeli attack on Iran, saying that the German government must work towards de-escalation. He emphasized the need for a diplomatic solution to end the threatening Iranian atomic program, stressing that a continuation of the war would have unpredictable humanitarian and economic consequences for the region.

The US administration’s actions will be crucial, Ahmetovic noted, even if the Iranian government has so far rejected new negotiations. He urged that efforts to engage in dialogue with Tehran must continue, saying that the Mullah regime in Tehran will eventually realize it has no other option.

The question of whether the Israeli attack violates international law is currently being examined by the German government, Ahmetovic said, adding that he will wait for the outcome of this review before evaluating any further steps.
