German automotive club president Christian Reinicke has called for measures against exorbitant prices at rest stops along German autobahns. According to Reinicke, the prices are “absolutely not justified.” “I think that’s not okay and something needs to be done about it” he said in an interview with the Funke Media Group.
Two aspects are crucial, Reinicke emphasized: firstly, providing information about prices, such as through apps, so that consumers are well-informed. “I also think it’s possible to change the signage on the autobahns. It’s still the case that an autobahn rest stop is announced with up to five signs per direction, whereas an autohof typically only has one. That doesn’t make sense to me” he explained.
For the implementation, Reinicke holds a new federal government responsible. “We’re talking about federal autobahns. The federal government is therefore responsible and must ensure that more happens and, for example, stronger emphasis is placed on offers off the autobahn” he said.
