Germany's GDP Falls Slightly

Germany’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) experienced a slight contraction in the second quarter of 2025, decreasing by 0.1 percent compared to the previous quarter. This figure, adjusted for price fluctuations, seasonal variations and calendar effects, was released Wednesday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

Preliminary data indicates a decline in investment in equipment and construction compared to the first quarter of the year. This downward pressure on growth was offset by increases in both private and public consumption expenditures, which also rose after accounting for price, seasonal and calendar adjustments.

Previously reported growth of 0.4 percent in the first quarter of 2025 has been revised to 0.3 percent.

When compared to the second quarter of 2024, the adjusted GDP remained level. This equivalence masked the fact that this year witnessed one fewer working day. Calendar and price-adjusted figures, however, registered a growth of 0.4 percent year-on-year.
