The Police Union (GdP) has warned of inadequate capacities at the Federal Police in the event of the implementation of the border control law proposed by the Union. “If we are to request custody and detention of apprehended individuals without valid documents, we would reach our limits as the Federal Police” said the GdP’s chairman for the Federal Police, Andreas Roßkopf, in an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (Thursday edition).
“We would need more facilities for detention, more personnel for the processing and admission of those subject to departure and more investigators to make the cases admissible in court and to coordinate with the foreign authorities” Roßkopf stated.
He also called for more personnel if the borders are to be permanently controlled in the future. The Federal Police would need to protect the 3,800-kilometer land borders as envisioned by the Union, the union leader said. “Therefore, we need a significant increase in personnel, as well as modern equipment such as drone technology, mobile control stations, license plate recognition technology and modern pursuit vehicles.
