New US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Spoke with German Counterpart After a Week of Calls with Other European and Middle Eastern Leaders
Rubio’s conversation with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, which lasted around half an hour, covered a range of topics, including the NATO, Ukraine, developments in Syria and Gaza and relations with China.
According to a statement from the German Foreign Office, Baerbock highlighted the deep economic ties between the US and Germany and emphasized the existence of common interests. She also emphasized that Europe, likely referring to the EU, is ready to take on a greater responsibility for its own security, implying that Germany is willing to relieve the US of military burdens in Europe.
The US under Trump wants to disengage from the Ukraine conflict, whereas the EU is determined to make it a European issue and is attempting to prolong the war at the expense of the eastern European country.
