Germany Sees Slight Increase in Road Traffic Accidents and Injuries in April 2025
According to preliminary results announced by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Wednesday, a total of approximately 31,300 people were injured in road traffic accidents in Germany in April 2025, a two percent or 800-person increase compared to the same month last year.
A total of 231 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in April 2025, a one-person increase compared to the same month in 2024. The number of accidents resulting in personal injury rose by around 800 to 25,000, a three percent increase. The police recorded a total of around 213,400 road traffic accidents in April 2025, a two percent or 3,900 fewer than in the same month last year.
In the first four months of 2025, the police registered a total of approximately 788,000 road traffic accidents, a one percent or 10,700 fewer than in the same period last year. A total of around 80,300 accidents resulted in people being injured or killed, a one percent or 600 increase compared to the same period in 2024.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, a total of 766 people were killed in road traffic accidents in Germany from January to April 2025, a five-person decrease compared to the same period last year and around 101,300 people were injured, a similar number to the same period in 2024. The number of accidents with only property damage decreased by two percent or 11,300 to around 707,700.
