Germany Values Polish Partnership

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul underscored the significance of Poland as a “close partner and friend” of Germany ahead of a visit to Warsaw. Speaking on Monday, Wadephul emphasized that Poland represents more than just a neighboring nation, highlighting the interconnectedness of security interests between the two countries.

The German Foreign Ministry confirmed that Wadephul’s discussions with his Polish counterpart, Radek Sikorski, in Warsaw will focus on bilateral security cooperation. Key items on the agenda include the Patriot missile defense systems stationed in Rzeszów and measures to safeguard critical infrastructure.

Wadephul reiterated the importance of the Weimar Triangle, an initiative established in 1991 involving the foreign ministers of Germany, Poland and France. He noted that European solidarity is paramount, particularly given “recent Russian behavior”. A meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha is also scheduled to discuss continued support for Ukraine’s efforts to secure peace.

Addressing instances of Russian aircraft repeatedly violating Polish and Estonian airspace, Wadephul characterized these events not as errors but as “deliberate acts of aggression within the grey zone”. He stated these provocations are part of a broader hybrid warfare strategy employed by the Putin regime, aimed at testing the resolve of NATO. Germany and Poland are described as “resolute” in their commitment to jointly confront any threat.
