Germany Tightens Border Control

According to a preliminary report by “Bild am Sonntag” 19 refugees seeking asylum were denied entry into Germany due to unauthorized entry under the new border regulations introduced by Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) on Thursday and Friday. The report states that the Federal Police registered a total of 365 unauthorized entries at all borders on these two days, with 286 migrants being returned. The main reasons for the refusals were the absence of visas, incomplete or falsified documents, or entry bans.

Federal Interior Minister Dobrindt had included exceptions in his new border regulations regarding asylum returns. Children, pregnant women and sick individuals (“vulnerable persons”) would not be returned. As a result, four migrants who had requested asylum were able to enter on Thursday and Friday.

Furthermore, “Bild am Sonntag” reports that 14 smugglers were arrested in the two days, 48 outstanding arrest warrants were executed and nine individuals from the extremist or Islamist spectrum were caught at the border. These figures highlight the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in managing migration and ensuring security at the borders.
