Germany Ticket Price Hike Eyed

State transport ministers are poised to approve a price adjustment for the nationwide Deutschlandticket, effective January 2026, during a special conference this Thursday.

Petra Berg, Saarland’s Minister for Transport, indicated to the “Rheinische Post” that a price point of up to €62 annually represents a sustainable financial basis for the ticket’s continued operation. Currently, the ticket is priced at €58.

Minister Berg emphasized the importance of maintaining a gradual price increase to incentivize further adoption and secure revenue streams for transport operators. The upcoming conference aims to secure a long-term funding strategy for the ticket, extending its support beyond the current expiry date of 2025 until at least 2030.

According to plans under discussion, the federal government and the states will each provide a permanent contribution of €1.5 billion to support the program. This commitment is intended to foster stability and predictability for passengers, transport companies and funding bodies. The overarching goal remains to preserve the Deutschlandticket’s accessibility and appeal, recognizing significant potential for growth in sales. Currently, approximately 14 million tickets have been sold. Minister Berg described the Deutschlandticket as a successful collaborative policy initiative with significant broader value.
