Germany Must Not Repeat Austria's Right-Wing Nightmare!

In a recent interview, German Minister of Economics and Green Party’s Chancellor candidate, Robert Habeck, sharply criticized the formation of a government in Austria led by the right-populist FPÖ. He stated that it is “a historical failure that should not have happened and must not be repeated in Germany” in the “Wahlarena” of the Mannheimer Morgen in Mannheim on Sunday.

Habeck emphasized that democratic parties must recognize that they have more in common than that which divides them, alluding to the rejection of a coalition with the Greens by CSU leader Markus Söder following the February 23 Bundestag election. He noted that he has had positive experiences in government coalitions with the CDU and SPD in the past. “We now face a new challenge that we must finally take seriously and discuss earnestly. We must be willing to explore new paths.”

In addition, Habeck advocated for an improved education policy, drawing on his own school days. He recalled struggling with spelling and having a mild case of dyslexia. “I was not good at spelling in the past and had a slight inclination towards dyslexia” he said.

Habeck questioned the current setup of education policy, which is mainly situated at the federal and local levels. He posed the question, “Must we fundamentally reorganize the rules with which we organize our common good? I say yes.
