Germany Monitors Russian Military Drills Closely

The German military (Bundeswehr) is closely monitoring the ongoing Russian military exercise in Belarus, according to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence. Addressing the dts Nachrichtenagentur in Berlin on Friday, the spokesperson stated that the Bundeswehr maintains a comprehensive picture of the situation, encompassing air, land and sea activity.

The spokesperson emphasized that ongoing NATO exercise “Quadriga” is not a direct counter-exercise. However, the recent incident involving a drone in Poland highlighted the importance of consistent training and readiness.

Maintaining a continuous balance of “deterrence and defense” within the NATO framework remains a priority, the spokesperson added. Protective measures for German personnel are being implemented based on the evolving situation.
