Germany Leads the Charge as Allies Unite on Defense Spending

In a historic agreement, NATO member states, including Germany, have pledged to increase defense spending to a total of five percent of their GDP in the coming years, according to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Speaking at the conclusion of the NATO summit in the Hague, Merz described the decision as a sign of unity, achieved thanks to the diplomatic skills of the organization’s Secretary General, Mark Rutte. The Chancellor also highlighted the deployment of the German-led Lithuania Brigade in a non-German NATO member state, a unique occurrence in the alliance’s history. The move was met with appreciation and gratitude from other NATO leaders, Merz added.
