Germany Condemns Violence Against Druze

Expressions of support for violence against Druze individuals, displayed by pro-Syrian demonstrators in Germany, have drawn strong condemnation from a leading Social Democratic Party (SPD) politician. Adis Ahmetovic, the SPD parliamentary group’s spokesperson for foreign policy, stated in an interview with “Welt” television that he holds “zero tolerance” for such actions.

The demonstrations, which occurred on Saturday, included gatherings near Berlin’s Rotes Rathaus and other locations, where hundreds of supporters of the Islamist regime in Damascus reportedly celebrated massacres targeting the Druze community in the southern Syrian city of Suwaida.

Ahmetovic emphasized the importance of a firm response from the rule of law. “Our legal system must be clear and unequivocal” he asserted. “For me, it’s zero acceptance, zero tolerance. I expect that where these demonstrations took place, local police, the rule of law and the justice system will find clear answers.

The politician drew a parallel between the expressions of sympathy for the violence against Druze and the solidarity demonstrations for Hamas, which glorified the attacks on Israel. “I have zero tolerance for that as well” Ahmetovic stated, adding that he similarly condemns gatherings celebrating the events of October 7th.
