The Federal Ministry of the Interior is prioritizing the bolstering of drone defense capabilities, with plans to place the issue prominently on the agenda of the upcoming Interior Ministers’ Conference (IMK). Minister Alexander Dobrindt, speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers, emphasized the urgency of addressing the evolving technological landscape.
The focus will be on centralizing expertise and coordinating efforts between federal and state authorities. This includes the development of new defense capabilities and the integration of both police and military drone countermeasures.
Speaking ahead of the IMK, which will be held in Bremen from December 3rd to 5th, 2025, Minister Dobrindt underscored the observation of an escalating technological competition. He characterized this as a race between the proliferation of drone threats and the development of effective defenses, spanning both hybrid and conventional military domains. The intention is to ensure a coordinated and robust response to emerging aerial security challenges.
