TUI Chief Cites International Presence as Key to Business Success

According to TUI’s own statements, international tourism has become the “backbone” of the company’s business. “TUI is doing well because we are strong abroad” said TUI CEO Sebastian Ebel to RTL and ntv on Tuesday. “We are not doing well because we are writing good numbers in Germany.”

Without the internationalization of the last years, the company would be in a difficult situation today, according to the TUI CEO. The tourism service provider also plans to focus more on foreign markets in the long term.

The CEO views the framework for the industry in Germany as rather negative. Germany is the production site, but not the driver of economic success. “Of course, the growth markets are outside of Germany – partially in Eastern Europe, in Southern Europe and then far outside of Europe.”

Regarding union demands for higher wages, the manager expressed a critical view. “Who wants to preserve the location and jobs should look at making the costs reasonable. And these strikes do not help in any way.
