Deutsche Bahn reports a further decline in punctuality for July 2025. Just 59.4 percent of long-distance travelers reached their destination on time, according to data released by the railway company Monday. This represents a decrease from the 67.2 percent recorded in July of the previous year.
Operational punctuality for ICE and IC high-speed and intercity trains fared even worse, reaching only 56.1 percent in July 2025, down from 62.0 percent in July 2024. Regional train services maintained a higher level of performance, with 88.1 percent arriving on schedule, though this also marks a reduction from the 90.2 percent achieved in the same month last year.
Deutsche Bahn attributes the declining punctuality figures to a combination of factors, including numerous short-notice construction projects, equipment malfunctions and ongoing infrastructure work. The company also cites external events – specifically, the heatwave experienced at the beginning of July, which led to an increase in wildfires and slope instability – as having contributed to disruptions in rail service.
