The German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, embarked on a visit to Kyiv on Monday, marking his first official trip since assuming office. Upon arrival, Minister Wadephul delivered a stark assessment of the ongoing situation, stating that the conflict in Ukraine represents a pivotal moment for Europe – a defining juncture determining whether the continent remains a bastion of freedom and human dignity or succumbs to a landscape where violence dictates borders.

He emphasized that Ukraine is not solely defending its own sovereignty and freedom, but also safeguarding the security and liberty of Europe as a whole against Russia’s aggression. Consequently, he affirmed a continued and unwavering focus on supporting Ukraine, highlighting its centrality to German foreign and security policy.

Minister Wadephul reiterated Germany’s firm commitment to standing alongside Ukraine, pledging ongoing assistance encompassing modern air defense systems, weaponry, humanitarian aid and economic support. “This is the promise with which I travel to Kyiv today” he declared, underscoring the significance of the relationship and the ongoing support Germany intends to provide.
