German Parliament’s President Julia Klöckner Defends Decision to Abstain from Raising Rainbow Flags at the CSD Event in Front of the Parliament
German Parliament’s President Julia Klöckner has defended her decision to abstain from raising rainbow flags at the CSD event in front of the parliament, citing the need for neutrality in the Bundestagsverwaltung.
According to a report from the ARD-Hauptstadtstudios, Klöckner emphasized the importance of the German flag, which represents freedom, individuality and the freedom of opinion and the press. She stressed that the neutrality of the Bundestagsverwaltung must be upheld, even in the face of seemingly worthy causes, in order to maintain a clear foundation.
While acknowledging the importance of the CSD event, Klöckner maintained that the Bundestagsverwaltung must remain neutral, just as it would for other demonstrations, such as Fridays for Future or the March for Life. She pointed out that the Bundestagsverwaltung’s neutrality is crucial, as it may sometimes be uncomfortable, but it is essential for the institution’s integrity.
When asked if she would attend the CSD event in Berlin, Klöckner remained noncommittal, stating that she could not comment on her schedule. However, she did reveal that she had previously participated in a CSD event.
