Israeli Conflict Escalates, German Politician Seeks Safety in Tel Aviv Hotel

Sebastian Roloff, a German member of the Bundestag, is currently in Israel, where he is seeking refuge in a hotel in Tel Aviv due to the ongoing rocket attacks from Iran. According to the German news magazine, Spiegel, Roloff has had to rush to the hotel’s shelter multiple times a day, describing the experience as “verstörend” or unsettling.

Roloff spent two and a half hours in the shelter on the night of Saturday, hearing explosions and trying to gather information on his phone, which made it seem as though the city was on fire around him. He maintains regular contact with the German Embassy, stating that the diplomats are providing good care and are now waiting for the airspace to be reopened.

In an interview, Roloff expressed understanding for the delivery of weapons to Israel, which he believes must constantly defend itself. He also thanked Jordan for shooting down Iranian drones, saying that unfortunately, one cannot expect to have large-scale negotiations with the Iranian clergy. However, he suggested that a willingness to negotiate might still emerge in the course of the conflict.
