German Mood Dims Decade of Decline

A recent survey indicates a significant portion of German citizens perceive their current living conditions as less favorable than they were a decade ago.

According to findings published by Bild am Wednesday, the Institute Insa conducted a poll revealing that 60.4 percent of respondents believe living in Germany today is (somewhat) worse than it was in 2015. Conversely, only 8.1 percent feel living conditions have (somewhat) improved. A further 28 percent reported that they consider living conditions to be unchanged.

The survey, commissioned by Bild, explored overall satisfaction with life in Germany. While 24.9 percent expressed enjoying living in Germany very much, 45.6 percent stated they generally enjoy living in the country. However, 19.7 percent indicated they generally dislike living in Germany, with 5.7 percent expressing strong displeasure.

The poll, conducted between July 18th and 21st, 2025, surveyed a representative sample of 1,001 eligible voters across the nation.
