During the London meeting of several foreign ministers, German Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) shows optimism that peace in Ukraine can be achieved. “I believe we have our first momentum, we have a real chance that it can start with peace negotiations. This week will show whether Vladimir Putin is willing to do so” said the Foreign Minister on Monday to RTL and ntv.
However, Wadephul sees the ceasefire as a prerequisite for negotiations. “One cannot negotiate peace under the fire of Russian weapons simultaneously.” If Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is really willing to do so, “then negotiations can start very quickly. Fortunately, the Ukrainian side has already expressed its willingness and can rely on strong European support, which will also be evident today here” said Wadephul in London.
