A German LGBTQ rights organization, LSVD, has strongly criticized US President Donald Trump’s gender-related decree and transgender rhetoric, warning of potential imitation by right-wing parties in Germany. According to the organization’s federal board member, Erik Jödicke, Trump’s intention is to “push transgender individuals out of public life and restrict their access to healthcare.” In an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, Jödicke stated that right-wing parties in Germany have been inspired by Trump’s nationalist rhetoric, personality cult, and narrative of a supposed “transgender craze” for several years, particularly around the introduction of the Self-Determination Act. He added that the rising numbers of hate crimes demonstrate that these dangerous words can lead to actions.
