Last year, 74,455.87 euros were deposited into the federal government’s debt redemption account, which citizens can contribute to, a decrease of around 32,000 euros from the previous year, according to the “Stern” newspaper, citing figures from the Federal Ministry of Finance.
The report states that in 2025, there were a total of 566 individual transfers to the account at the Bundesbank, with the largest being 10,000 euros. The federal government established the account in 2006 to enable citizens to participate in debt redemption.
Since then, around 1.6 million euros have been collected through this channel. According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, the funds are earmarked for debt redemption.
