German Citizen Detained in US Nightmare After Decade-Old Pot Bust

A 34-year-old German citizen, living in the United States, has been taken into custody upon his return to the country and is reportedly being held in a detention center for over a week, according to his family. The German government has confirmed the incident, but the details remain unclear.

Fabian S. has been living in the US since 2007. He claims to have been mistreated by authorities, alleging that he was yelled at during a questioning at the airport and was forced to undress, a common practice during the entry of foreign nationals into the US. While in custody, he reportedly fell ill and was taken to a hospital, where he was even restrained to a bed.

The German Foreign Ministry issued a statement, saying, “We expect our partners to ensure that detention conditions conform to international human rights standards and that detained individuals are treated with dignity.”

Notably, the mother of S. revealed an interesting detail, stating that the questioning of the German citizen repeatedly centered around a cannabis-related offense from nearly a decade ago. He was previously detained in California with more than 30 grams of cannabis, but the case was later dropped. However, in 2022, a federal agency re-opened the case and summoned S. to a hearing, which he missed due to allegedly not receiving the summons during a move.
