German automakers registered a significantly higher volume of vehicles under their own names during the first half of 2025. According to industry data provider Dataforce, the total reached 128,000 vehicles – an increase of nearly 30,000 compared to the same period last year, as reported by “Handelsblatt”.
Volkswagen led the way in self-registrations, accounting for approximately 46,000 vehicles, also holding the position of top-selling car brand overall in Germany. Notably, Mini demonstrated the highest proportion of company-owned vehicles relative to their overall sales, reaching 36.4 percent. The brand attributes this leading position to a recent shift in their distribution model.
In the electric vehicle sector, Opel has emerged as the clear frontrunner, recording 48.5 percent of all electric vehicle registrations. This marks a considerable change from the year prior, when the manufacturer accounted for less than 1 percent of all electric registrations. Opel attributes this substantial increase to employee leasing programs and the availability of demonstrator vehicles showcasing new models.
