Despite stable crude oil prices, fuel costs in Germany have seen a slight increase, according to a recent analysis by ADAC, the German Automobile Club.
Currently, the average price for a liter of Super E10 nationwide stands at €1.673, representing a 0.4 cent increase compared to last week. Diesel prices have risen even more, increasing by 0.6 cents per liter to reach €1.623.
ADAC suggests that the current diesel price is disproportionately high and the recent increase in gasoline prices is difficult to justify given the near-unchanged oil price and a strengthening Euro against the US dollar. Brent crude oil currently trades at just under $69 per barrel, consistent with prices from the previous week. The Euro has rebounded to above $1.17. These factors would typically indicate a downward pressure on fuel costs.
The organization highlights a significant discrepancy, noting that the price difference between Super E10 and diesel is now only five cents per liter, a divergence exacerbated by a tax difference of approximately 20 cents, further suggesting diesel is currently overpriced.
ADAC advises drivers to fuel up in the evenings, when prices are typically ten cents lower than in the mornings. Furthermore, motorists are encouraged to avoid filling up at highway service stations, opting instead to drive off the Autobahn to access potentially cheaper options, which can be over 40 cents per liter less expensive.
