Gamers Spend Big on Games

A recent survey conducted by the Bitkom industry association reveals the significant financial investment German residents make in gaming. The study, based on responses from 1,209 individuals aged 16 and over, including 626 self-identified gamers, highlights an average monthly expenditure of nearly €30 per gamer.

A slight difference in spending habits exists between genders, with male gamers spending an average of €30.50 monthly, compared to €27 by female gamers. While younger individuals, aged 16 to 29, demonstrate a willingness to spend, with an average of €28.70 monthly, the trend isn’t limited to a specific age group. “Silver Gamers” those aged 65 and above, also contribute significantly, spending an average of €20.50 per month on their hobby.

The survey indicates that 70% of German gamers have spent money on gaming-related purchases within the past 12 months. In-game purchases, such as virtual currency or equipment, proved to be the most prevalent form of spending, accounting for 56% of such expenditures.

Subscriptions to online gaming services are also popular, with 44% of respondents reporting payment for these services. Similarly, 40% of gamers have purchased or downloaded games online. A noteworthy 15% of gamers still procure games through physical retail locations.

The majority of gamers maintain their monthly expenditures below €50, with only 14% exceeding that threshold annually. This data provides a detailed snapshot of the gaming landscape and spending habits across various demographics within Germany.
