SPD’s Matthias Miersch Announces Plans for New Security Bills

Matthias Miersch, the General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), has announced that the SPD will present additional security bills in the upcoming parliamentary session and engage in discussions with other democratic factions in the Bundestag.

According to Miersch, the new bills will include expanded powers for the federal police and the implementation of the European asylum reform. He stated, “We will discuss these proposals with all democratic factions in the Bundestag.”Miersch also highlighted the achievements of the SPD-led government, saying, “We have already taken many steps: We have facilitated deportations, introduced border controls and reduced asylum applications.”

Miersch criticized CDU leader Friedrich Merz, stating, “By accepting AfD votes, he not only abandons the previous principles of the CDU but also splits the democratic center and sends a fatal signal to our European partners. Friedrich Merz is neither statesmanlike nor farsighted.”

The SPD politician called for a “consequential review”of the Aschaffenburg stabbing incident. “Obvious enforcement deficiencies must be addressed. Enforceable law must be consistently applied on all levels, regardless of the governing party. If further legislative gaps become apparent, we will close them”Miersch added.
