German Weather Service (DWD) warns of freezing rain with black ice formation in southern Germany. Mainly affected are parts of Bavaria, as meteorologists reported on Sunday morning.
As a result, disruptions to road and rail traffic are possible. The warnings are initially in effect until Sunday afternoon at 2 PM. An extension of the warnings and an expansion to further areas is possible, according to the DWD.
The background of the weather situation is that a marked warm front with snow and freezing rain is currently crossing Germany from southwest to northeast. Mild air masses will then take over. Initially, the approaching precipitation will fall as snow, with widespread accumulation of up to five centimeters, particularly in the Bavarian Forest, with up to ten centimeters of new snow. The snowfall will then turn into rain, which will briefly freeze over.
