The German Weather Service (DWD) has expanded its frost warning to further regions of Germany. In addition to Bavaria, parts of Saxony, Thuringia, and Hesse are now affected, the meteorologists reported on Sunday morning.
As a result, further disruptions to road and rail traffic are possible. The warnings are currently in effect until Sunday afternoon at 3 pm. An extension of the warnings and an expansion to further areas is possible, the DWD said.
The background to the weather situation is that a marked warm front with snow and sleet is currently crossing Germany from southwest to northeast. The milder air masses will then take over. Initially, the approaching precipitation will fall as snow, which is expected to amount to one to five centimeters, with up to ten centimeters in the mountains. The snowfall will eventually turn into rain, which will freeze over temporarily.
