German Minister of State Thorsten Frei Calls for Intensified Debate on Seized Russian State Assets
In a recent interview, German Minister of State Thorsten Frei, a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), emphasized the need for a more in-depth discussion on the seizure of frozen Russian state assets.
According to Frei, every sense of justice demands that the seized assets be used to counter the immense damage and human suffering caused by Russia in Ukraine. He described the current situation as the strongest bombardments since the start of the war and argued that it is only fair to use Russian money for the necessary defense measures.
While acknowledging the opposing views, Frei emphasized the importance of weighing the pros and cons of using foreign assets in the EU or Germany. He stressed that the situation calls for a closer examination of Russian state assets and that Germany should not let Russia’s manipulation go unchecked.
Frei also highlighted the need to explore all available means, including the seizure of assets, to achieve a peaceful resolution. He believes that the “toolbox” is limited and therefore, the available tools must be used effectively.
