Freiburg's Masterstroke: Beste's Return to Bundesliga Sends Shockwaves!

Freiburg’s Bundesliga Football Club, SC Freiburg, has signed Jan-Niklas Beste from Benfica Lisbon. The club announced the news on Friday.

“‘There are configurations that should not be missed and that’s an opportunity we shouldn’t hesitate to take,’ said SC Freiburg’s sports director, Klemens Hartenbach. ‘Niklas is a very versatile player and is familiar with the Bundesliga. He has already demonstrated many sporting achievements – now it’s a matter of integrating him into our team. This work begins immediately and we are looking forward to it immensely.'”

Beste himself stated, “I have a very great enthusiasm for the Bundesliga and the chemistry in our discussions has clicked.” He remembered the stadium in Freiburg as “very atmospheric from my last appearance here last in Freiburg and I’m looking forward to experiencing this atmosphere in the SC Freiburg jersey.”

The left-winger moved from 1. FC Heidenheim to the Portuguese capital last summer and played for Benfica in 22 games, including in the league, Champions League and national cup competitions. In the previous season, he scored eight goals and provided 13 assists for 1. FC Heidenheim in the Bundesliga and in March 2024, he was called up to the German national team for the first time.
