Freiburg Snags Draw in Bologna

SC Freiburg and Bologna secure a draw in Europa League clash.

The German side, SC Freiburg and Italian club Bologna concluded their Europa League match with a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening. Bologna initially took the lead in the 29th minute through Riccardo Orsolini, capitalizing on an error from Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu.

However, Freiburg demonstrated resilience, equalizing in the 57th minute when Junior Adamu successfully converted a penalty awarded after a handball by Bologna’s Santiago Castro, confirmed by a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.

The match saw Freiburg exert more pressure in the final stages, with Derry Scherhant and Jan-Niklas Beste creating opportunities that were thwarted by Bologna’s goalkeeper, Lukasz Skorupski. Bologna also sought to regain the lead but were unable to break through Freiburg’s defense decisively.

The result extends SC Freiburg’s unbeaten streak to five consecutive competitive matches, although an away victory in Italy remained elusive. For Bologna, the draw represents their first point of the Europa League season, following a previous defeat against Aston Villa.
