Eintracht Frankfurt secured a 2-0 victory over Ferencvaros Budapest in their seventh match of the UEFA Europa League group stage, played at their home stadium.
The first half was marked by a lack of clear-cut chances, with Eintracht Frankfurt dominating the game in terms of goal-scoring opportunities, while Ferencvaros focused on a solid defense, failing to create any significant attacking threats.
Ekitiké had a promising attempt in the 19th minute, but Dibusz, the Ferencvaros goalkeeper, managed to clear the ball from the corner of the box. In the 36th minute, Kristensen had a chance to score, but Varga, the substitute goalkeeper, parried the shot and the ball went out for a corner, which did not yield any goals. Despite their better chances, Eintracht Frankfurt failed to score before halftime.
The home team finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, thanks to Uzun, who capitalized on a great ball recovery and shot the ball from 20 meters, unsaveable for the goalkeeper.
Eintracht Frankfurt gained more space and exploited it in the 59th minute, as Larsson’s shot was deflected, and Ekitiké, in a rare moment of opportunism, scored from close range.
The Hessen then controlled the game, securing the three points and a strong position in the Europa League table, where they now sit in second place, virtually assured of a spot in the knockout rounds.
