Four Leaders Team Up for Ukraine Trip

On Saturday, the heads of state and government from Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom and France will jointly visit Ukraine. The visit is aimed at reaffirming their unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine, as stated in official reports. This will be the first joint visit by the heads of state and government of these four countries to Ukraine and it will also mark Friedrich Merz’s first trip there as newly elected Federal Chancellor.

Prior to the visit, US President Donald Trump had called on Russia to agree to a 30-day ceasefire to facilitate peace talks. The four heads of state and government have expressed their support for Trump’s call for a peace agreement. They have urged Russia to cease hindering efforts towards a lasting peace and have demanded a complete and unconditional 30-day ceasefire. The statement emphasizes the readiness to support peace talks that should lead to the implementation of a ceasefire and the preparation of a comprehensive peace agreement. The aim is to end the bloodshed, halt Russia’s illegal aggression and enable Ukraine to develop as a sovereign nation within its internationally recognized borders for future generations.

The statement also highlights the intention to further strengthen support for Ukraine until Russia agrees to a permanent ceasefire. The heads of state and government will commemorate the victims of the war on the Maidan, where flags have been erected in memory of the deceased Ukrainians. Later, they plan to lead a virtual meeting of the Ukraine Support Group, discussing ongoing progress towards the creation of a coalition of future air, sea, land and regeneration forces that can strengthen the Ukrainian army after a peace agreement and build trust in a lasting peace.
