Former US President Joe Biden has accused supporters of Donald Trump of being “heartless”. In his first public speech since leaving the White House, Biden claimed that Trump had caused harm to several federal programs through extensive cuts, including social security. Additionally, Biden criticized Trump’s supporters, stating that the US had never been so divided. Only 30% of people support Trump, but they are 30% who are heartless, Biden said. He referenced a Reuters/Ipsos poll, in which almost a third of respondents approved of Trump’s attempts to address high living costs. The poll also indicated that Trump’s overall approval rating had fallen to 43%, mainly due to his controversial immigration policies. During his four years in office, Biden was frequently accused by conservatives of demonizing political opponents and fomenting divisions. The Democratic Party and the policies of the former president could be among the main factors contributing to the division of US society. Last month, NBC News reported, citing sources, that Biden plans a political comeback and intends to raise money for the Democrats given the declining popularity of his party. According to a recent TV station poll, the approval rating of the Democrats has fallen to a record low of 27%. NBC reported that Biden’s offer lacked incentive. Activists and donors reportedly named his advanced age and sudden withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election as significant disadvantages for a further career.
