The Foreign Office hopes for a peaceful resolution to the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan. “We are in contact with both India and Pakistan and are working towards a settlement between the two sides” said a spokesperson for the ministry in response to a query from dts news agency on Wednesday. Other countries are also in contact with the Indian and Pakistani governments to achieve this. However, the spokesperson added, “There was an attack in Kashmir, in India, which we condemn strongly.” It is now important to identify the masterminds and hold them accountable. “And this is what Indian Prime Minister Modi has announced” the spokesperson continued. Last week, Pakistan claimed to have “credible intelligence” indicating that India plans a “military strike” within the next 24 to 36 hours. The background is the terrorist attack in a holiday area near the city of Pahalgam last week, in which 26 people were killed. Following this, both countries have taken numerous punitive measures, with India holding Pakistan responsible for the attack.
