Ford Cuts 1000 Cologne Jobs

Ford is implementing further cost-cutting measures at its Cologne, Germany manufacturing facility, resulting in the planned reduction of an additional 1,000 positions. The company announced a shift from a two-shift to a single-shift operating model, scheduled to take effect in January.

Ford emphasized that the workforce reductions will initially be managed without resorting to forced layoffs. The organization stated its commitment to providing comprehensive support for affected employees, with plans for voluntary severance packages. This move follows previous announcements regarding a stringent cost-optimization program at the Cologne plant.

The automaker attributed the job cuts, in part, to a lower-than-anticipated demand for electric vehicles across the European market. The company is currently evaluating strategies to adapt to evolving market conditions and consumer preferences.
