The turnover of retail companies in Germany decreased in March 2025 compared to February, after adjusting for calendar and seasonality, by 0.2 percent in real terms and 0.1 percent in nominal terms. In comparison to the same month of the previous year, the turnover increased by 2.2 percent in real terms and 3.2 percent in nominal terms, according to preliminary results announced by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Wednesday.
In February 2025, the retail turnover increased compared to January 2025, after revising the preliminary results, by 0.2 percent in real terms (preliminary value: +0.8 percent) and 0.4 percent in nominal terms (preliminary value: +0.8 percent).
The turnover in the retail sector for food products increased in March, after adjusting for calendar and seasonality, by 0.3 percent in real terms and 0.6 percent in nominal terms compared to the previous month. In comparison to the same month of the previous year, the turnover increased by 0.5 percent in real terms and 3.2 percent in nominal terms.
The turnover in the retail sector for non-food products, on the other hand, decreased in March, after adjusting for calendar and seasonality, by 0.6 percent in real terms and 0.3 percent in nominal terms compared to the previous month. In comparison to the same month of the previous year, the turnover increased by 3.7 percent in real terms and 4.0 percent in nominal terms.
In the online and mail-order retail sector, the turnover in March showed a real and nominal increase of 0.6 percent compared to the previous month and thus was 9.5 percent higher in real terms and 9.3 percent higher in nominal terms compared to the same month of the previous year.
