Magdeburg Appoints Markus Fiedler as New Head Coach
The 1. FC Magdeburg, a German second-division football club, has announced the appointment of Markus Fiedler as its new head coach. Fiedler, 39, will take charge of the team for the first training session on June 23, the club revealed in a statement on Sunday.
Fiedler previously managed VfB Stuttgart II, guiding the team to a successful relegation battle in the 3rd division. Otmar Schork, the club’s sporting director, praised Fiedler’s coaching skills, describing him as a “dynamic and tactically astute” trainer. Schork noted that Fiedler had an impressive track record at Stuttgart, developing young, talented players with a clear vision.
Fiedler expressed his reluctance to leave Stuttgart, stating that the departure was extremely difficult for him. However, he seized the opportunity to join Magdeburg, driven by a desire to continue the club’s positive sporting trajectory and contribute to its further development.
Fiedler will succeed Christian Titz, who recently left the club to join Hannover 96.
