German Retirement Insurance responds cautiously to the CSU’s demand for adjusting the mothers’ pensions.
“Around 4.45 billion euros would be the costs for the mothers’ pension III (extension of an additional six months of childcare per birth prior to 1992). Converted, that would be roughly a quarter of a percentage point of the contribution rate” said a DRV spokesperson to the ‘Rheinische Post’ (Tuesday edition). “Around 9.8 million pensions would benefit from this. However, the costs could be higher, as for example, pension adjustments would need to be considered.”
The pension fund demands: “The extension of childcare times for children born before 1992 (mothers’ pension III) must be fully financed from tax revenues and should not be borne by the contribution payers.” The CSU aims to achieve that mothers are also credited with three years of childcare at the pension for children born before 1992. Currently, they are only credited with 30 months.
