Germany’s Federal Government Urged to Reach Compromises in Financial Talks

Saarland’s Minister-President, Anke Rehlinger of the Social Democratic Party, has called on the federal government to reach compromises in the financial negotiations surrounding the planned “Investment Booster.”

Rehlinger emphasized the importance of new economic growth, stating, “We as states want and need new economic growth, undoubtedly.” She added, “Therefore, we are willing to approve the growth booster, but we must also be able to agree to it in light of the dramatic budget situations in many places.”

The states and municipalities require a financial compromise from the federal government, Rehlinger said, citing a signal of willingness from the Chancellor. “Now, it is extremely urgent to work on a solution to avoid overburdening local or state budgets” she emphasized.
