US stock markets lagged on Wednesday. The Dow was calculated at 44,713.52 points at the close of trading in New York, a minus of 0.31 percent compared to the previous trading day.
Just minutes earlier, the broader S&P 500 had around 6,040 points, a 0.5 percent decline and the technology stock market, the Nasdaq, had calculated the Nasdaq 100 at around 21,410 points, a 0.3 percent decline.
Market observers had expected investors to anticipate a pause in interest rates by the US central bank, but had hoped for stronger signals on future interest rate cuts.
The European common currency was slightly weaker on Wednesday evening: one euro cost 1.0410 US dollars and a dollar was accordingly worth 0.9606 euros.
The gold price showed a decline, with 2,755 US dollars paid per fine ounce at night (-0.3 percent), equivalent to a price of 85.08 euros per gram.
Meanwhile, the oil price fell: a barrel of the Brent North Sea type cost around 22:00 German time on Wednesday evening at 76.77 US dollars, a decrease of 72 cents or 0.9 percent from the close of the previous trading day.
